Courses in beautiful Andalusia

Chalk the Sun offers exciting, intensive 5-day courses in beautiful Andalusia, perfect for writers with some experience who want to build their skills, as well as confident beginners or rusty writers. Watch this space for 2020 dates, usually June and October or email jo@chalkthesun.co.uk

There are structured workshops every morning which concentrate on scene setting, character creation, authentic dialogue, and the development of plot, theme and structure to create a satisfying narrative. Afternoons are free for writing plus one-to-one sessions with our tutors before we reconnect as a group in the evening for readings and feedback over pre-dinner drinks. Workshops take place in a typical, spacious town house with large tables for group work and a choice of spaces, indoors and out, for individual writing time.

Chalk founders Jo and Ardella

The course tutors are Ardella Jones and Jo Hepplewhite:  Check out their biogs here

We can arrange accommodation for non-residents in a self-catering villa or apartment in Gaucin near the teaching venue.  Picturesque Gaucin, with its views of Morocco, is a perfect base for sight-seeing in the Sierra Ronda and just 45 minutes from the Malaga coast and Gibraltar airport.  Flights from UK are normally under £200 return.

Our Gaucin Writers’ Room Workshops

Why not combine a creative writing workshop and one-to-one tutorials with your Andalusian holiday?  Jo Hepplewhite lives in Gaucin and offers regular fortnightly workshops for writers of all levels from absolute beginners to published authors to kick-start their creativity or develop work in progress.

You can book Jo Hepplewhite for personalised individual sessions to help you beat the block, test out ideas or finish a project. Jo also teaches holiday workshops for budding  junior writers 8 years and older in the area. For further details email: jo@chalkthesun.co.uk
